    Pulsating rotors

I read this GREAT tip from the Ducati Monster List...

If your full floating rotors have a few miles on them and they are pulsating try this:
    Take the rotors off.
Spray the buttons with some WD and tap them with a small hammer to work the WD in. You'll be amazed at how much crap you'll get out of there. At least on feller had tremendous success with this method.

This may not fix the pulsations but it is a cheap (free) and easy try.

Also, since you have the rotors off, hit them up with some scotch brite to clean the surface a bit. Here is another alternative to cleaning your rotors.

Not a stupid question I googled it...

There are three types of brake rotors: solid, semifloating, and full floating. With a solid rotor a single piece of metal is bolted to the wheel. With semifloating, you have a center piece and a separate outer part that the brake pads touch and the two are connected by a bunch of round "buttons" that allow a small amount of movement between the two. With full floating, the braking surface is relatively loose so that it can move around to hopefully become in perfect alignment with the pads. Full floating rotors are less likely to pulse than solid or semifloating rotors. Most race bikes have full floating rotors. Full floating rotors make noise at low speeds as the parts move around, since they're kind of loose. Semifloating rotors don't make the noise.

he heat advantage is not that they necessarily cool faster, but that they're of more uniform heat, which makes them less likely to warp. You don't have the problem of the outer edges being real hot and the center part bolted to the wheel being cold with a lot of temperature variation in between. The heat doesn't transfer between the carrier bolted to the wheel and the braking surface because the buttons holding the two together aren't solidly connected. The new wave rotors are even better for being uniformly heated.

    (from someone else...)

Semi-floating rotors don't seem to do much to reduce squeeking on the Brembo brakes used on Ducati motorcycles. You have to change pad material to really get rid of the problem. Most of the Monsters from the mid-90's had squeeking rear brakes. I tried cleaning, sanding the pads, adding some blue anti-squeek stuff to the back of the pads and a few other things, but they continued to squeek until I got new pads. The front brakes on my 888 squeek occasionally, but I just ignore it. (probably hard to hear over the clutch )

Actually if you spray them with WD-40 and then use the right size hex wrench and spin the buttons you get more dirt out. A lot more dirt. The inside of the button is not hex, but you can usually get a hex wrench to "lock up" in the button so you can spin it.
