Arrow The Simple DIY For Changing Your Oil......

Since the weather was cold and the fams taken a nap,

I wanted to mess with the bike a little, so I decided to do some quick maintenance....

I know theres been quite a few newbs to the bike world join lately, so this could help out.......

Now 1st off this is the way I do it, there are many variations that everyone uses and how they do it, but this has always worked for me and its the way Ill always do it....... The main thing that matters is that its done regularly....

    * 1st....... Watch the World Superbike race that you didnt get to because she had Young and the Restless on......

*2nd......Have the good stuff waiting for ya....... Thanks R&D by the way....

*3rd...... Get that baddass mo fo out and warm her up.. Take her around the block. I like to get it up to at least 150deg.....

*4th......Remove the fairing covering the drain plug. On the R1 its the lower on the opposite side on the oil fill.....

*5th..... Loosen the drain plug (the 02 R1s is a 17mm)......I keep a finger pushed up on the plug as I loosen to keep the oil from leaking out as you unscrew it by hand....

*6th...... Unplug the oil fill plug......Helps to get all the bad stuff out...

*7th..... While the oil is draining, (this is done many, many different ways, this is mine) I usually go ahead and lube the ol chain up..... I start with WD40 and a rag behind it, then just hand spin the tire to soak it. After a nice wipe down with a cloth, I apply the wax the same way but just let it dry on its own.....

*8th......The oil filter is next. Most of the time they are right up under the headers....

Now if youve left your filter wrench at your boys, this always works if its to tight...... You have to do it at the top of the filter thou, so you dont hurt the nipple that it threads onto. This is just to loosen the filter, after its loose, take it off by hand...

*9th..... Lube the filter with a little oil......Then fill it up 3/4 of the way (some cant do this depending on how your filter mounts...... Hand tighten.......

*10th....... Tighten you drain plug... This does not take much torque at all, so do not over tighten.... Once tight, just a 1/4 turn more.

*11th.......Get rid of the stupid ass built in funnels on the Repsol and throw in 3 qts and check (this will very from bike to bike of course).....
    \

*12th...... Hand tighten the fill plug and I usually start mine for a minute, then let it sit for a few more.....While Im doing this I put the lower back on and start with the outside tabs 1st. Then go to the 1/4 turns......Then check the oil (should be half way between the dots on the looking glass, I keep mine towards the top) and add as necessary.....

and then you gotta take her for a spin of course, even thou its Fn freazin outside......
