You may have to bounce it a little bit in 2nd. Hit the throttle in 2nd, let go and allow the front shocks to compress. When you feel the front start coming back up, give it gas and the front will come up fine. The preload will give you the extra lift to get past the 6 inches (insert your 6 in joke here )

He came by my house at about 70mph to 80mph on the rear wheel, dissapearing over the hump and into the distance still on the rear wheel...good 1/4 mile, maybe more

I've tipped 3 bikes upside down by using the "clutch technique"...didn't work for me too well I'll will use the clutch by sliping it a bit at high RPM's (Full Power) in the power band to lift the wheel, this might not add shock to the drive train, but it will cook your clutch in time!....I've had no clutch repairs compared to 3 bike repairs using this technique though

I use the clutch while in 2nd gear.

I can do both "bounce" and "clutch up" techniques, but I perfer to do the "clutch up" way. You have to know what speed and what rpm to get it right but when you get it down it looks and feels perfect. I've been workin on gett'n it into the balance point this last year and have it down to a point. I can actually maintain a certain speed with front end in the air now.
I'll try and embed this youtube video of me. Here:

    Wheelies are bad.

    Mkay….

But If I were into wheelies and promoting some technique that might work for someone I'd say something like this:

I like to stand up and bounce the suspension with the throttle to initiate the skyward action. It comes up a lot slower, requires much less acceleration to initiate, and with the higher COG any teetering action at the balance point is slower giving you more time to correct.
The joy of success is increased by the struggle along the way.
