Caution. It is not safe to have music so loud that you cannot hear the traffic.
As many of you saw, I do have an ipod mounted on my helmet. This was thought of after I left my old mp3 player and earphones laying in the streets of Bloomington after a bout with some wires that thought they could win. ( i showed them huh?)![]()
I chose to use the shuffle because of its light weight and ease of use. no display, just a few buttons and it was blue (the fast color). although any light weight mp3 player should work.
You will also need a pair of earphones from walmart. I went to walmart to see which would be easiest to tear apart and this is what I came up with. The Phillips shs4700 was the most likely candidate (not Hillary).

Some black duct tape and industrial strength or automotive strength Velcro.
First you will need to separate the earphones by pulling off the ear clip. DO NOT CUT EARPHONE WIRES. The plastic casing can be pried apart with a pocket knife. Once you have 2 speakers with wires still attached set them aside.
Now you will need to decide on where to mount your music player. I mounted mine on the rear right side. I should have done the rear left side but too late for me.![]()
Once you have decided where to mount music player you need to clean that spot real good so adhesive backing on velcro will stick to it. same with the back of iPod, and attach iPod to your helmet.
you will need to remove the cheek pads only at this point. the back side of the cheek pads are where your going to mount your speakers. you may need to test the position of speakers in helmet before continuing to make sure they are comfortable to fit. and not poking in the side of you skull. they should mount perfectly above where you chin strap connects to helmet on back side of cheek pads. i used some black duct tape to secure the speakers to the cheek pads.
Now that you have your speakers mounted you will need to remove your helmet liner and the reinstall cheek pads with speakers to run the wires to mounting location. I doubled my wires over on each other in the seams of the foam in the helmet so you dont feel the buldge of wires. cover wires in helmet with black duct tape.
you will need to remove the cheek pads and reinstall the helmet liner, then put the cheek pads back in, plug head phone jack into iPod, and now you are ready to jam out with wires out of your way while riding.![]()
