    OBDII Scanner+Android app (Torque)

Last Thursday I received my OBDII bluetooth dongle. I'm using it on a 2011 F150.

I picked it up for about $25 shipped from lxdstation on ebay.

This thing is awesome. It pairs right up to you Android phone, and doesn't interfere with Sync for Ford (you can use both at once).

Thanks to a $5 app called Torque (http://market.android.com/details?id...=search_result), you can see tons of info about the truck. (I think there's a free version too)

    - Check / clear error codes.
    - Show fuel economy
    - View engine telemetry (RPMs, speed, throttle %, acceleration g forces, coolant temp, boost pressure, intake temp, intake pressure, trans temp, voltage).
    - Track your 1/4 mile and 1/8 mile times.
    - Track 0-60mph / 0-100kph times
    - Track horsepower and torque output.
    - Check fuel level
    - trip odometer

Its a really cool little app, it lets you set up 7 different 'dashboards' that you can drag and drop different guages and graphs onto. You can also set a custom background.

To get HP and Torque reading, you have to have the accurate weight of your vehicle. Then you put in which model vehicle and trim level with engine size.

Here is a video from a guy on the F150 forum I'm a member of.

It plugs into your car, and tells you all of that? For $25?

That's pretty cool. I wonder how it calculates horse power.

Ive seen this.... My boss has it on his Motorola Pad and uses it on his Tundra. Badass!! Cost him $25 for the bluetooth adapter and $5 for the app........ Reads everything while rolling down the road too. You can even record it and then send it to your mechanic.........

Just ordered one on amazon for $21. Should be interesting to see how my new Jetta does.

It really is unbelievable the amount of information it will give you. I paid for the torque app ($5) and have my Droid mounted in my drivers side dash air vent. I used it on my brothers '99 Explorer that had the check engine light on and it immediately showed me that he had a cam sensor that was out of whack. I reset the code, it cleared, check engine light went off.

To calculate the true HP and torque, it's very important to have the exact weight (with you in it) of your vehicle as you select your vehicle, trim level, engine. Its pretty accurate as far as I can tell. I took off from a dead stop in second gear and let the rev limiter hit. It calculated my HP at 342 and Torque at 349. I have a 2011 F150 Supercab with the 5.0 V8. Factory numbers are supposed to be 360HP/380Torque. But the difference could have been gas, air temp or whatever...way to many variables.

Now you can use it for a million different things even if you don't have your weight. It just won't calculate HP and Torque right. I have mine set up to monitor Air temp, absolute throttle position, GPS speed, oil temp, air temp and trans temp.

It's just such a geek thing to mess with that I had to have it.

It will also log everything that it tracks and you can save it. I haven't messed with it enough to compare numbers with different variables. Such as gas octane, outside air temp and the like....but I will.

The GPS tracking is really cool on it.... I was checking it out the other day and it shows you the route, average speed, stop times, etc etc..... Very cool. Was hoping they would come out with this for Apple........

Give us a report after using it a while. This would be worth having around.
