LSB track day pros and cons

As somr of you know, a great deal of time and effort go into making our track day as enjoyable as possible, so we try to improve every year. The committee has an idea how things go from their stand point but we'd like to know how it went from the riders.

We already have plans on how to make registration smoother.

Is their anything that you wish was available at the track?

    Would you like more vendors?

Were the CR's helpful? Did you wish you had more intructions in novice?

Was their anything left out in the pre ride meeeting?

More people stop being pansies and bailing with 1 or 2 sessions to go. It's great to have open track but it is also takes the fun out of it if you don't have anybody that passes you or to try to pass and mix it up with. I seem to try harder at the end of the day when I think that open track is going to be better. The past 3 LSB trackdays the last session I have ran off the track and that is when I call it a day. I want to get my monies worth.

Most peeps are just whopped by those sessions Mike....... Especially when its 95+ outside........ Id rather them pull off and pack up than wad their shit due to being distracted.

Thats really up to the rider though..... and tell the truff, you werent passing anyone anyways......

Lets hear some things about making this day better than all before. Are there any major concerns that we can address? hell, even small ones........?

Were the CR's helpful? Did you wish you had more instructions in novice?

    Yes and Yes.
I'm sure the testosterone is kicking in at the track days but I'm sure a lot of novice and Intermediate would like to see more training instead of the CR's trying to set their best times of the day.
I would like to suggest that the CR's follow us and give tips on braking, different lines and body positioning. Thanks for the track days Louisville-Sport bike.com

The 1st track day I did in the mid 90's I knew 3 people to talk to and learn from. Now, I can talk and irritate 60 people.

Agree and disagree. If these guys wish to volunteer their time to do this, then yes. But I wouldnt expect them all to give up every bit of the day to do this and not get out there in the mix with their respectful groups.

I couldnt make last years, so I dont know what changed from 2010's day. So based on the 2010 day, I'll suggest this........drop the novice back to being "completely" controlled at a limited speed for the 1st session only. 2 sessions was just craziness! Also, we were told that speeds would be around 65 during the first session? I dont remember who lead the group I was in, but we never saw over 50 for the entire 1st session. If you are going to set a speed, stick to it! All I can really think of that stood out the most.

The 1st track day I did in the mid 90's I knew 3 people to talk to and learn from. Now, I can talk and irritate 60 people.
I know when I was out there the people that confronted me or asked me to follow them I did. I also followed EJ around and I made the decision to bump him up as he was tearing it up out there. He wasn't to thrilled about it, but I knew he would be 100% OK in Intermediate. I figured he would enjoy a little faster pace, and wouldn't be ass packing people. If you figured up the amount of time I spent out in my group (Advanced) it probably only equaled to about 3-1/2 sessions. I don't care about that just pointing out that I would rather help than ride in my group. When I was in either Novice, or Intermediate I didn't run anywhere close to my Advanced pace. I did run faster than most, but it was to catch the faster guys in the group to keep a eye on them. I didn't want them stuffing people or making passes that upset the other rider. If I was asked to help I did. I tired to follow and watch just about everybody out there. Did I talk to everybody, and give them pointers? NO. I wish I had enough time to, but I don't.

I don't try to set my best times in the Novice or Intermediate classes. Hell I only pass in Novice if I can do it on the straights. I don't want to startle or cause a tense moment for the Novice or Intermediate rider. If I want to pass some one at full speed diving into a turn I will go run Advanced. Did I probably make mistakes, and people feel like I'm inadequate as a CR. Maybe. I just know I love teaching people the lines and give advice what to do out on the track. I also love teaching people body positions, and other things to help them. I had 5 or 6 people ask me to follow them and see what they needed to improve on. I hope I helped them out. I only had one or two Thank Me for helping them. Do I have to have Thank You's from each person I follow HELL NO, but when you do get a Thank You. You know for a fact you helped someone learn how to be a better rider. That makes my day knowing I helped someone out.

One person I remember asking me for help then thanking me later was JackTanner. He had some stagnant times he couldn't figure out how to improve on. So we went out, and he followed me for a couple of laps, and then I followed him for a couple then we switched back. He ran faster times that session. Did he keep running them the rest of the day, I'm not sure I didn't get a chance to talk to him before we left. All I know is it made my day knowing I helped someone figure out a problem area. His problem was his lines.

Last year we did the slow pace for the first session only. The pace was faster than 2010's as we averaged about 65-70. 2nd session we still did follow the leader but we turned the speed up and started waving the riders by and following them. The only real crashes, and track get offs we had was in Advanced. I don't recall any Novice or Intermediate riders going down. Advanced crashes was supposedly caused by oil in turn 4. I think it was because their EGO's were trying to show Jimmy V how to ride.

I still think we (LSB) put on the best trackday that I have been too as far as minimal crashes and amount of time on the track.

Thanks for the suggestions Matt and Boog and we really all appreciate that Justin......

We dont make shit off this day and its a damn good thing we love doing it cause it takes a lot of time and team work. So it really feels good to hear a comment like that..........

I was out there in every session and followed just about everyone on the track for at lease a few laps. Most dont even realize it though until Id come up after the session and talk to them about different things to work on. The thing about our group is that everyone rides damn good, so the hand holding isnt needed nearly as much as other orgs. Our day is one of the best because of the riders we have.

That's a big fat sloppy range. Sounds about right tho.

    Oh wait. You said 65.
    That's a 1:38.58
