    What would you do...

We can't ride but we sure as hell can talk about it so I'll ask you a couple questions for discussion....

    1. You are traveling down your favorite backroad and coming into a slower corner which means you are braking pretty hard. Suddenly you see sand and rocks in the road. Your bike is still straight up and down but you are braking pretty hard. What do you do?

    a. Release the brakes and hope that you'll have shed enough speed to get through the turn.
    b. Grab more brake hoping to shed speed because too much speed is bad.
    c. Release front brake pressure and dial in some rear brake.
    d. Kick Samsonkeg in the nuts because it feels good.
    e. Look straight at the sand and hope for the best by doing nothing.
    f. Other

    2. You have entered a blind slower turn. You are carrying pretty good speed because you know the road pretty well. You suddenly see rock and sand all over the road. What do you do?

    a. Shut the throttle and grab some brake because you just gotta slow down.
    b. Steady throttle and dial in a little rear brake.
    c. When in doubt gas it out so you whack the throttle all the way open.
    d. Kick Odile in the nuts because it's fun.
    e. Other.

No right or wrong answer really. Just throwing this out there for discussion. These are 2 situations we have all found our selves in.

In both of those situations I know exactly what I would do. Get up after crashing my brains out and walk straight over to the corner worker and kick them square in the crotch for putting a yellow flag and a debris flag out.

    1. B (Both front and rear until I roll over the sand/gravel, then I would coast into it and try to prevent a slide and stay in my lane).

    2. C ( I would expect some kick out on the rear, but hopefully I could stead the bike enough to make it up right again, then apply both front and rear to stop).

Stay off the brakes, hold my speed and stay relaxed. Then find a nice tree stump to slow me down.

    Im not slow just conservative

Honestly, in both situations I've noticed things too late, and just plowed straight through them with a steady throttle. By the time I noticed, I was already through the mess.

Case in point: I think Dubai was behind me on my first time on 227. There was a decent amount of debris in different parts of the road that I kept hitting, one of which was a nice golf ball sized rock. I apologized later at McDonalds for shooting the big rock at him, and he started laughing. He said that he didn't expect anything less- I'd ran over everything else.

    1. I don't brake hard for any corner, but say I was, for argument sake. Hit the rear brake til my front tire has passed the B$ in the road then get back on both.

    2. Go around the B$ in the road like normal, while letting off the front brake just in case I hit some of it while trying to hang off the bike a bit to stand it up some. Then reach behind me in my cooler and pull out a refreshing Pepsi to cool me off from the sun beating down on me in my leathers.

1.) D but for the meantime if I still feel I need to scrub off speed I'd go with C. I grew up on dirt and playing on old gravel roads in the country so I'm no stranger to locking up the back and straightening it out. Lean weight on the pegs gradually to keep it straight or bring it back to straight and keep the front wheel pointed where you want to go. As long as the front doesn't lock you'll be ok.

2.) D but before I do that, I'd probably try to avoid the rock depending on the size of it. Other than that I'd stay on the throttle or lean forward on the tank and pin the damn thing as Justin and Tiff saw me do on the 954 last season in the knobs. It kicked out more than I thought it would and damn near made me shit my pants but eventually after losing traction, it found it again and stayed upright.

I'd be looking for an escape route. if no cars are in the oncoming lane I'd find a spot with the least crap in the road and aim for it.
