Anyone know of a good way to prep New tires before you hit the street or track???

This may be a dumbass question... but new tires can be slick (duh) when they haven't been scrubbed in... so I just wanted to see if anyone has thought of or use a method for roughing tires up a bit before they ride them.. ?? My thought was something like hitting them with a little 150 grit sand paper or something of that nature.. just to get the oily resedue off.

Mold release agents are no longer an issue with new tire manufacturing practices. I usually get out to the edge of my new tires within the first 10 or so miles.
The joy of success is increased by the struggle along the way.

I know there is a post about the Poser Kit somewhere but I can't find it.

    Totally agree with Danho7...

For the street tires, I usually take it easy for the first 50ish miles, dipping in to the corner a little bit more each corner, and by the time I fill up my first tank after having them on, I don't even think about them...

For DOT track tires, I put the warmers on them, the first session I take it easy for the first 2-3 laps, and then by the end of the first session I don't worry about them.

Tire companies use release agents that evaporate and don't leave the residue like they used to leave. Within a good 30-50 miles, there really isn't an issue.

Like some other said. I ride them on back roads for about 30miles dipping more and more into turns until that film stuff is gone

I agree with Danhor and Railing, I have pushed them straight away and they do slide a bit, so I tend to make sure I have around 50 miles on them to make sure I got a few twisties on them before I start pushing them
DOT's, with warmers and warm weather, I just go for it, with warmers and cool weather, I do a lap maybe two before I get on them hard.
    Playing safe, is still playing!

I honestly havent even thought about new tires being slick in a long time. I usually just jump on and go right like I normally would. yeah, I always take it easy for a couple of miles just to bring the up to temp, but I dont pay any attention to if they have been scrubbed in or not.

next time you get a set of new tires, feel how tacky they are before you even put them on the bike.

Believe me I have sold many sets of high performance tires for bikes.. I worked at cycle gear for over a year very recently.. and I always paid close attention to all the tires that we carried.. some even in the same make and model appear better than others... that's why I like to have a good selection to choose from.
