    VFR or CBR?

I'm looking at buying one of the following two bikes:

    2002 Honda VFR 800
    2008+ CBR 600/1000RR

Some of you have ridden with me - I like long rides so I was thinking that the VFR is going to dominate in that category, however I'm more sport oriented than touring, and the 08 CBR 1k is more comfortable than before.

My riding ability is more at the 600 level, and I tend to get under powered vehicles and push them harder rather than buy big and hold back.

V motors like the VFR are going to be more forgiving. But the CBR is a legendary platform also. I think I know what I want to do - but I value a second opinion... any thoughts on pros or cons for either of these bikes on an average LSB ride?

My .02 is, buy the 2002 vfr 800. After that, buy the 2008+ cbr 600 for me. Probably not the opinion you were looking for, but .02 is better than .00

    I own a 2003 VFR and a 2007 CBR 600.

I love my VFR and will probably not part with it for a long time. It's very comfortable for all day riding and can still be thrown around in the twisties. Extremely versatile bike with hard bags as well as soft luggage readily available.

My CBR 600 is more fun to ride and surprisingly comfortable for a super sport. Excellent bike for spirited riding with a strong motor, excellent brakes and razor sharp handling.

I would recommend the CBR if you have to choose one.

2003 Honda VFR......Staintune exhaust, PCIII , Helibars, Sargent seat, Penske rear shock, Traxxion front forks, Pazzo levers, Speedohealer and Ventura luggage for the occasional trip.

2007 Honda CBR 600 RR.......Carrozzeria wheels, Spiegler brake lines, R&G frame sliders, Puig screen, Pazzo levers.

I will not recommend the VFR... cbr is more fun. I've had both and you see what I ride now.

Not to knock the VFR...it's a great bike, I just find that I ride a little more agressive than the rider that bike was targeted at.

I'll agree with this statement. My VFR is very content on a spirited ride, but it does not like to be pushed hard. One benefit though is when you ride to Shoals or Bloomington you don't have to stop and fill up every 100 miles like everyone else

The VFR is a great 2 up bike, it's a great bike if you're a mid-pack rider, it's great if you're tall, but if you want to drag a knee and that is your sole purpose then don't buy it. But, for 7,000 bucks you can have the best of both worlds. You can pick up a clean 600rr for 3,500 and a really nice VFR for 3,500 and have a choice.

    Good luck!

If you want to throw a leg over a VFR let me know and we can meet up sometime soon.

I put 14000 miles on an 05 VFR that I no longer own.

I currently own both the 600RR and the 1000RR. I've put about 16000 miles on the 600, and about 7000 on the 1000.

I've ridden all three bikes 400-500 miles in a day numerous times.

I would say without a doubt the 600RR is the best of the three bikes for sport riding. The 1000 definitely has more low end torque and more power, but you just ride it differently, and the 600 is a faster bike overall in the twisties, so power shouldn't even be a factor unless you are wanting to drag race or do 180mph on the freeway.

On the 600, stay with 07-08, the 09-10 was detuned about 5hp for noise regulation.

The VFR is a great bike too, and better suited for touring no doubt. But comfort wise, the 600 is more comfortable to me than the VFR was. I'm not a tall guy though, so I felt a bit more stretched out on the VFR. If you are a tall guy, then the VFR might be a bit more comfortable. The VFR can definitely be ridden faster and more aggressive than anyone needs to ride, but you will work harder doing it and it wont come as effortlessly as riding the 600.

There is no question in my mind that the 07-08 600RR is the best sportbike ever manufactured. There is the reason why it won every shootout for 2 years.

I like my 1000RR just fine too, but if I had to choose between it and the 600, it would be a no brainer.
