Most all countries today have some sort of conscripted army.

Doesn't matter to me...I did my time.
i'm sorry such things don't concern you.

    you do have grandchildren, right?

their possible future indentured servitude doesn't bother you? i know better than that, sammy.

Condescension aside I believe that to truly appreciate and understand the liberties and freedoms we have one must serve our country in a truly contrite way. I probably care more than most. I served proudly for 8 years. I can only hope my children and grandchildren do the same. Too many don't.

I respect those people that enlist in the military, I respect those people that fight for our country, and even for battles that shouldn't be fought, but I'll be damned if my country demands me to do ANY type of service those so deem necessary, just because they think I should. Wrong choice of a word.

There needs to be a serious look at those documents that formed our country, WE THE PEOPLE. Seriously, I don't need my government thinking for me, telling me what to do, we should be telling them what to do.

Fuck this bill and those people that formed it. I have already written 3 letters about this crap to my politicians, if this crap passes, I will be moving...

I don't necessarily believe in conscription however I wish more than the "less privilaged" would serve. I see an inequality between the economic classes. I see many hawkish people that don't know what horror war is. I see a bunch of overgrown kids who play Call of Duty all day and think how glorious it would be to go mow down some "gawd damn rag heads".

You want a real eye opener...stay on station under the water for 112 days smelling the same farts day in and day out in a submarine. When you smell the fresh air you realize you have done something few others care to do.

My point is simply that conscription would even things up and certainly re-open a few eyes. Do I really believe in the Draft....no, I don't.

And to further argue...it is not a socialist agenda to bring back the draft. It's been here on and off for years during times of conflict. You want to end the draft system...end the wars.

I served as well, in hopes that my kids dont have too. I did not serve in war time(desert strorm doesnt count) however I understand the mentality of the people that suck our youth into the fight. Once someone enters the armed forces they are liable for at least 8 years! This means serve for 2 years with 6 years that they can randomly call you back up to serve, no matter what you are doing. Vets that are suppose to be getting out of the military after they serve thier time and end up getting forced into doing 2 more tours in Irac...seriously?
It also angers me for someone to say your un-american. This is a big thing people did/do when others dont support the war or thier point of view. Yes we lost a lot of people when the towers fell, yes we dropped bombs on them like a extreme game of astroids. Why are we still there? Personally I find it un-american to kill kids in flip flops.
We have a entire generation of fucked up kids coming back from irac. All my children will be going to college.

end wars? hell, i'm all for abolishing our standing armies and reducing the military to it's constitutionally authorized purpose, to defend our borders and territorial waters. the citizens are our homeland defense forces. you can't fight aggressive, foreign wars without a standing army. the founding fathers knew this.

using a draft to force 'social change' is a horrible idea. the welfare class is created by gov't and more gov't intervention and action is only going to make things worse. trying to fix problems caused by gov't with more gov't never works.

no matter how you feel about the draft and conscription, can you argue it's not a form of slavery with a straight face and intellectual honesty? it's the definition of slavery.
