wooo weee... sounds like the US is low on man power to fight off the North Korea, Iran, China, Russia, Venezuela and protecting the borders from the mexican drug cartels... It does sound like the man is preparing for something.

and it looks like regular ol drafting during war time to me.

I was a little misled by hippie the article.
That's not the way I read it. Two years service is required. The second part is that you can be "inducted" at any time during war, etc.. It doesn't say that only two years is required if you get drafted.

I'll be too old. It won't apply to me. It is still socialism regardless. Politics are crazy in this country these days. If we would quit nation building, spending trillions of dollars on a bunch of BS, and get our government small enough to provide only the purpose of representing the people again, we would have plenty of patriotism and no mandatory service would be needed. Kind of like the way it was back in the days of "representation without taxation"

I'll be moving to Texas. It will be the first state to secede

This is the 4th time this bill has been introduced since 2003. Worry not, it won't go anywhere. And yes, it seems to be a regular old draft (during the time of war) that we had for years until the mid 70's.

Whatever. Let them pass it. I got the 2nd amendment to protect me from actually having to do anything.

It wont pass. I'm not worried about it. What bothers me is that this is the mentality and culture of politics in America now. More government, more taxes, less freedom, more social programs, more spending, more war, more, more, more, etc..

All you blind sheep on the "hope" train are being lead to the slaughter.

We need less government, more freedom, less taxes, no war, less spending, no social programs, less, less, less. Remember "liberty" and "the pursuit of happiness" ? I don't think welfare, nation building, and free health care on borrowed money was in the original founding fathers visions. Perhaps providing as little government influence as possible, while maintaining order and a basic infrastructure was the original intent ?

We didn't even have to start paying federal income taxes until 1913, and after that, every significant war has brought a significant increase in federal income tax. Seems to me that we were getting a long just fine before without them. With the exception of one Clinton term, we haven't even gone a single year without a budget deficit since 1970. Everyone blames the state of the economy on Bush, but the truth of the matter is that we have been heading down this road for decades. You can't just keep printing money and spending more than you take in without consequences. Bush was a moron, but he is among good company, current socialist moron included...

Boys and girls..we had conscription of service sporadically from the Revolutionary war all the way until WW1. At the start of WW1 until 1973 all men between 18 and 25 were part of the draft with few exceptions.

Most all countries today have some sort of conscripted army.

Doesn't matter to me...I did my time.
