    question

Sam's thread got me thinking about parking lot drills for newer riders that are interested in progressing to the next level in a reasonably safe and controlled environment.

With this idea in mind, I'd like to pose a question. Would a parking lot obstacle course be a good drill to teach a rider to look through a turn. Obstruct the visor in some manner to limit the field of view and force a head turn to focus the riders attention. On the street the idea seems ridiculous, but in a controlled environment I think it could be very beneficial.

I find myself cheating with looking through the turn. My head may be turned, but often my eyes are only looking twenty feet ahead of the front tire.

Comments, criticism, or ideas are welcome.

I actually found the circle drill to be one of the best for looking through the turn. Since you are just focusing on the cone in the center, you get a feel for being leaned over and using your peripheral vision.

    Short answer: Nana says NO!
Long answer: It is better to set double cones at the points of entrance and exits of the figure 8 and look at the next one when you are at 10 feet from the turn ... you want to be constantly looking into the next turn - NOT the one you are in and certainly not down. This doesn't work with circles. You are scaring me I have a diagram of an exercise like this. Maybe Crazylegs can lend me a scanner and I can post it up...

Here's an idea: from now on, only read the threads, don't post in them. And for god's sake, don't start any more threads.

blinders work on horses, why would they not work for forcing a rider to focus on a specific point? in an open parking lot blowing a turn because the rider failed to look to the next reference point causes no real danger, on the street is an entirely different story.

Keep working on it. When you accentuate looking through the corner with your head does the bike seem to follow?
