Ear plugs: Who uses them when riding?

Hey guys/girls, I've recently started to wear plugs when I ride and I've decided that I like it. They kind of act like Dolby noise reduction in real life , filtering out wind roar and high frequency noise will still allowing you to hear traffic sounds. In a weird sort of way I feel as though i hear better than without. I can hear my valve train whirring away and intake honk better. I can hear the front discs hiss when I brake. Low frequencies like car engines stand out more. What do you all think? Do you or have you tried them before?

Have been wearing them for years. I totally agree with you that I can hear other sounds much better with the plugs in, the wind noise without them masks too many other sounds.

Like RC says, it also protects your hearing as well, wind noise can do much more damage than people think.

Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. It is, however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence, or stupidity

I wear them too. Tried them once, and was hooked.

yup, I have always worn them. If you think they are uncomfortable, then you haven't worn them long enough, (or a pair with the correct softness.) If you say that you dont wear them because you cant hear cars and stuff, then you just havent worn them for longer than 5 minutes.

I worked at UPS years ago, and realized then how much they can cut out the background noise. I actually find it painful to not wear them now. I went out for a session one time at a track day and had forgotten to put my earplugs in. I will never make that mistake again.

IMO, its a critical piece of gear, just as much as helmets and gloves. the hearing damage that can cause from wind noise is well documented, and hearing doesnt grow back like skin graphs

I used to not wear then, until I got a shoei x-11. that forced me to start wearing them, and I'm glad that I did start wearing them. I can't hardly ride without them now.

Then I was having problems getting roll down type of earplugs to go in my ears after wearing them for a while. It took me too long to get the ear plugs back in after we stopped for a break. I got a big assortment of ear plugs and started trying to bunch of different types until I found some that are comfortable and easy to put in. It was a real pain in the ass, but now I'm glad I did my homework.

I don't wear them. Thought about trying them but to be honest my bike is just too quiet for the time being and road noise is filtered pretty well with my helmet. Once I work on my exhaust I may end up wearing them but as I said just no need for them for now as it's really not an issue.
