Tail and plate light are out

I'm stumped. My tail and plate light are out. I've checked all three bulbs and they seem to be fine. I've tested the connector with my multimeter and it is reading 0v. So I've either got a break or a short somewhere.

Anyone experience anything like this on a 6th Gen VFR800?

I've checked the fuses on the fuse box and they are all in good shape too.

I'd like to figure out where the wires source at so that I can then start testing the connection back to the bulbs, but I haven't been able to figure it out from the wiring diagram I have.

Would you like the service manual for your bike? Were you one of the ones that I sent a service manual to? The trick to something like that is to trace the wires back to the connector. If they are all connected and look good up to that point, keep going. Having the wiring diagram from the service manual will really help out. The wiring diagram may be a pain in the ass to read, but taking your time with it will pay off. PM me. I may be able to come by & check it out, if you're interested.

I checked my computer. I don't have a manual for your 2004 VFR. I DO however have the fi'd VFR800 98-01. If you do not have a manual for your bike, let me know via pm & I will download it. If it's out there, I can find it.

Start at the tail light and trace the connectors in the opposite direction. Mine has a connector about 8 inches from the tail light and turn signals and everything runs through that connector. You might have to pull some stuff out, but it probably just came undone.

I've got the 02-09 service manual thanks! If you'd like a copy, I can make sure to send it to you.

I have a similar issue with not getting any power to my turn signals. Is it your brake light or your running light that went out? A few wks ago, my running light went out, and I found it to be a fuse. As far as your situation...I'm having to do the same with the turn signal wiring as well. Let us know what you find, and if I figure out something on my end, I'll keep you in mind.

Brake lights are fine, it is just the "running" lights to the tail and plates. The rest of the bike running indicators are fine. I checked the fuses and the connectors and they all check out.

Like I said, I'd be happy to come look at it. I am really good with bike electrics.

    I need my head checked.

So, I'm a complete idiot. When to my good friend Dan Shaw's house and found out my tail light issue was just a blown bulb. I couldn't see the busted filament the first time, but he remove the bulb completely and it was obvious at that point. You live and you learn I guess, but I thought I was smart enough to catch that.
