Indiana driving test... what to practice?

    Hello,

I have my permit. I really want to take the ABATE course, but the next opening isn't until June... I am signing up for it, but I would like to get my license before that so that I'm legal for night riding.

What should I practice so that I can ace the driving test?

Little circles, really small figure eights in slow motion and stopping on a dime. If you really want to know more, just go to S&S Clarksville on Saturday afternoon early and watch...it's public

Welcome to LSBKS. I would recommend practicing on the stops, figure eights, and shifting gears while turning. They do the figure 8 in a small box.

Thanks guys... my buddy found a link of some tests that might be given and we went out and tried running through it tonight... I'm having a lot of trouble on my bike... it's a SV 650 and it was lowered when I got it... do you'll think it will be easier if I bring it back to normal height, especially for the slalom? I got on my buddy's bike which is a Kawasaki Versys and after riding mine, had no problems maneuvering through the slalom on his...

90% of people fail the driving test in Clarksville. It's made to be hard. Yes, raising your bike will improve it's ability to turn, greatly. I would highly suggest putting it to stock height, lowering it makes handling slow and fast horrible.

For the figure 8 drill, it's all about looking where you want to go. Once in the drill, look for the entrance for the first turn, and look at the exit for the second turn. Literally crank your head 180 degrees to find the entrance, and you will make the turn, and the same for the exit. It's also about almost counterleaning the bike. These are drills they practice in the MSF. I would HIGHLY suggest you just wait to take the MSF, it's a worthwhile course. If my fiance ever decided to ride, I would even retake it with her.

Great advice Railing........ Also, take your foot and put a little pressure on the rear brake, just drag it and it will help keep the bike stable while taking those tight turns....... Good Luck man.

Also, high revs, feather the clutch. Keep your revs up when doing the tight turns and feather the clutch. That with looking exactly where you want to go will make you pass. That was the only thing that got me out of the box drill, looking for the entrance and then immediately looking for the exit. This was part of the drills you did leading up to it. The instructor standing dead center of the box yelling for me to look at him.
