It's recently been called to my attention that I'm a cheapskate.
I've known this for a long time as my neighbor first called me so when I was 7.
I know I'm not the only one that makes due, so here is how I brought my brakes back to life.

In the process of re installing my race rubber I "should have" installed new pads & rotors which had been "ruined" by leaky fork seals and were glazed and caked with fork oil & grit. BUT because of my lack of free time to buy the parts compounded with my tendency to procrastinate and generally be a cheep skate, I made due.
Here's what you need
1. carb or brake cleaner
2. 200 grit emery cloth
3. some beer
4. a Dual Action (DA) sander
5. a pan to clean and work over. This will become important later.
6. a flat board or something to use as a sanding block.
So here we go.
1.Get your $hit torn down.
2.Wrap the emery cloth on your flat "sanding block"
3.Over the pan containing all the loose parts, blast off the calipers specifically the pistons allowing the drip to soak the pads and other nasty components in the pan.
4. With your home made sanding block facing up and soaked with carb/brake cleaner take the pads and scrape the glaze off by holding flat and scraping approximately perpendicular to the arcs left by the rotors.
5. Keep the emery cloth wet with carb cleaner or it will gum up and be useless.
6. Rinse the pads with carb cleaner, and re install into the calipers.
My stupidass bike has 8 freaking pads.
It only has 2 rotors.
Why does it need 8 freaking pads.
Onward.
The rotors were glazed over as well, so rather than buying some after market $hit that makes blingers feel happy & proud, I took my DA and Emery cloth and cut off the hard slick residue left by the fork oil.
Pull them off and hit both sides or one pad is going to wear quicker. Still need to soak the paper with carb cleaner or it will load up quick. Learned that the hard way.
Now for the main event.
Burn off the combustibles you've been collecting in the pan.
It's part of the man code written thousands of years ago.![]()

I may have to try that sometime. GSXR just got new brakes last season. So it should be good for awhile. One thing I didn't see where the beer cam in to play.
I mean I know you like making Slo-Mo video's with beer cans, but I didn't see a link for one.

but i guess if you are cheap, bored and a pyro.....then this is the way to go.
