This is a naked bike, and will be different than a bike with a lot of plastic around it. They will not melt from heat. The light output of the dual dominators are what I would consider about 3/4 the light output of the original 7" round light, and they just don't do well at night, and I was always looking for a way to increase the light output of them before I sold the bike, but I also did something similar to Wendy, and just didn't ride much at night. This is also why I put an HID kit in the R1 as soon as I bought the bike.

I am running 35w HIDs in my R1, and the heat output is less than stock, and they output more light. I am sure that the 35w would be adequate to give more light output on the SV, but in terms of light, the 55w really do make a bit of a difference in single light applications, or in applications like the dual dominators, where light output just plain sucks, and where any additional heat would easily dissipate.
    +1

I've been running the DDM 55w in my GSXR for over a year with no melting issues. Light output is GREAT despite the fact that it wasn't designed for it. I don't mind riding at night now.

Alright, well I guess I'll spring for the bi-xenon kit then.

I'll post up pics when I get it installed.

    Thanks!

For the most part its quick and easy. Took me about 30min to get the bike apart so I had room to work, about 45min to install and then another 30min to put it back together. I used double side tape (3m industrial) to mount the ballasts to the inside of my fairings and tucked the wires thru speaker wire loom so it looked all factory under the body work, dont know why I did that, you cant see them, but im kind anal like that

I have a Z1000 so hiding the ballasts is going to be tough. I might just order some today.

Digital ballasts (slim ballasts) are smaller, about credit card size and 1/4 inch thick. mount them under the seat and run the wires. If you want PM me and stop by, I live in Jeff also, you can see the size and light output before you order.
