    HID Questions

Hey guys, I know some of you have done HID upgrades, so can you give me any suggestions on what kind of HID kit I should install on mine and Wendy's bikes?

Wendy's: SV650 w/ Dual Dominator headlights. Terrible light output, so she hates riding after dark. Should I go w/
    1) 35 watt HID in each, on all the time, no brights.
    2) 35 watt hid in both, one on for brights only
    3) 35 watt hid in low, 55 in high
    4) Bi-xenon for both
    5) regular 35 for low, bixenon for high?

    Mine - R6 w/ stock lights.
    Same questions.

    What would you suggest?

Ill let the guys who have them on their bikes chime in, but I can say that I just bought the DDM 55w kit for my pops' Nissan and its a very nice setup. I was surprised at how well everything was put together.

For the bike, I would go with both sides for sure if your not trying to save a dime and actually ride at night quite a bit. Most guys are using the 35w 5000K or 6000K.

You only need one 35W low, unless you want to spend the money.

There is really no point as it'll be more badly scattered light.

Unless you're Spoolin and know Honda specially designed the reflectors with his HID retro-fit in mind

I had the dual dominators on the SV, and I agree, crappy light output. I bought the bi-xenon to put in them, and never mounted them in, and ended up installing them in my Jeep, which provided great light output. I would suggest you look at the bi-xenon lights, those should improve the light output and still give you the high beam option. I couldn't find a really great place to mount the larger boxes on the bi-xenon, but they might have gotten smaller now than they were then. So I would suggest taking a look at them, and if not, I would go with 55 watt HID in both, as those dominator lights aren't that great to begin with.

I have to disagree with railing on the 55w in a motorcycle, the lights will get too hot and melt stuff. Im not real sure how big the casings are on your bike but im sure they arent big enough for the 55w. 55w are more for car/truck lights. However, the 35w 6000k are what is in my bike and also munkys old bike/ryan502's present bike and they are bright and really nice.

Run dual 35 4500k HID in my bikes and cars.

DDM has dual setup for $25 plus ship now for dual setup.

    Cant buy silverstars for that.

I run 8000k 35 on low and 6000k 55 high in my bike (07 zx10) and have since new, I use an A&R motorsport kit and by far is the best upgrade I have ever done!! Light output is amazing. Mine still runs one low aand both on high which I haven't figured out how to change but regardless I love them. Spend the $ for the digital ballasts because they are tiny and easy to hide and make sure you have all the relays so you dont fry them on start up. The girl just commented today she saw my bike coming over 1/4 mile away in sunlight because of just my low beam shining

And I have to disagree with you, the dual dominators headlights after aftermarket and something that a lot of SV riders put on their bikes to get the dual headlight look. They are metal, with glass lens. They are individual cans, exposed on all sides to the outside, without a large casing around them like a fairing bike will have. This is a naked bike, and will be different than a bike with a lot of plastic around it. They will not melt from heat. The light output of the dual dominators are what I would consider about 3/4 the light output of the original 7" round light, and they just don't do well at night, and I was always looking for a way to increase the light output of them before I sold the bike, but I also did something similar to Wendy, and just didn't ride much at night. This is also why I put an HID kit in the R1 as soon as I bought the bike.

I am running 35w HIDs in my R1, and the heat output is less than stock, and they output more light. I am sure that the 35w would be adequate to give more light output on the SV, but in terms of light, the 55w really do make a bit of a difference in single light applications, or in applications like the dual dominators, where light output just plain sucks, and where any additional heat would easily dissipate.
