Cycle Laws - Indiana and Kentucky

I found the AMA pages for Laws in Indiana and Kentucky, basic summation of the law.

For example, Kentucky doesn't require a headlight on while riding, Indiana does. So track bikes with no headlights are legal to ride in Kentucky on the roads. But if you run a modified exhaust (something you changed different than the manufacturer made), then you can't run it in Kentucky.

You know what else is funny, Kentucky requires eye protection, so if you see someone without a helmet, and without eye protection, turn them in... And a helmet is required in KY 21 and under...

When I was in Florida....even though there isn't a helmet law, they were handing out tickets left and right if you didn't have eye protection, even at cruising speeds.

Also Florida requires a helmet if your insurance doesn't have at least $10,000 health coverage... I checked on this, as I am taking the bike to Florida in September while on vacation.

i'm pretty sure kentucky requires you to wear a helmet unless you have sufficient amounts of insurance coverage as well

Kentucky just says:

Helmets - Required for novice riders, under the age of 21 and required for instructional permit holders

That was only for the first year the law got changed to allow no helmets. They changed the next year to not require insurance.

When I went for my permit back in December 2006 and licensed my bike from IN to KY, the circuit county clerk worker informed me while having a permit it is required to wear a helmet, and once I got my license (now have) that I need not wear one if I provided current proof of health insurance. Also, once providing that proof, an extra sticker is issued to put on the license plate, letting 5.0 know that no helmet is okay. It doesn't affect me either way, but this isn't so any more?

... and that site on KY doesn't seem to be completely correct from my experience! My bike had the right turn signal ripped off when I got it and while everything else was there, the sheriff would not let it pass inspection, therefore, couldn't get a KY plate!! Grr! So here it was cold December, in the back on this dude's pick up, I have NO idea how to ride, can't get it transferred into MY name, so we just notarize the title signed over to me. I just had to take the bike home and let it sit in the garage for a couple of months, learn on the net how to ride it... rode it in a parking lot across from my house to completely learn, drove it to my mechanic up the road to fix the wiring and turn signal, and scared to death -- drove it down Dixie Hwy to the county clerk-sheriff to finally, after many months, get the title in my name!

A friend of mine once sold a bike.. notarized the title at a bank and yet after 4 months he found out it was still in his name and he had to pay taxes on it -- yet again. What is it, if it's in your name the 1st of January ya got to. So anyway, he applied for a duplicate title and promptly junked it! I never heard what happened with the whole situation, when or even if that guy who bought it tried to transfer it over at some point, but I didn't want to be in that legal situation
