I just wanted to thank everyone that spent all of their time and money in organizing this event. All the control riders were amazing. This is what a track day should be like. My friend Scott said that he has never run a day at Putnam that was as well organized as this one.
I've only been on the bike a handful of times since Cycle Options in April, and my confidence level was lifted after the first couple of sessions. It was lifted high enough that I started leaning more, and scraping my peg and toe in Dead Bear. The first time it happened I freaked out- I lifted the bike up, ran wide, and decided to see what kind of fertilizer the park used on the infield grass. But I kept it on two wheels.
After a quick Total Control style exercise with Sam and Dave, I realized that my body positioning was horrible. After getting all this contradictory information to my three years of bad habits, my next session was my slowest. I had to really concentrate on Sam and Dave's advice, and it messed with my focus. I left that session frustrated, and decided to set out the next session and reflect on the words of my teachers.
The next session was unreal. I felt quicker on the bike than ever before, albeit a bit shaky. I have to work on getting into position ahead of time, so that my inputs are not messing with the bike as I dip in. Dave's throttle hand advice really helped me through the Bus Stop, and I made Dead Bear my bitch.I took it faster than before, and had lean angle in reserve- I didn't have any hard parts scraping.
In conclusion... the event was well-organized, extremely informative, and safely run. I finally have a "feel" of body positioning, rather than a picture, which I think will make me safer. I thoroughly enjoyed today, and can't wait for the next one.
