Great post Sam...
Really, if you compare torque and power curves they are similar between all the bikes, some are higher in one area, some are higher in other areas of the RPM, some peak higher than others, etc.
Really it depends on where you ride in the RPMs. Many of us don't bounce off the rev limiter all the time, so that peak HP isn't touched much, I know I cruise around 8-10K through most corners, and I redline at 14K, so that still leaves a good bit of the HP area untouched...
Personally I say buy whichever bike gives you a stiffy, and makes you want to ride it. It's better to have a bike you enjoy riding, than one you don't enjoy, but has 10 more HP than the other bikes... All of the magazines dog on the R1, but in one area, they all say, the R1 is a blast to ride, and gives you some of the best feel while riding.
I made the choice of the R1 because of looks, and feel. It felt good under me, and I felt the controls were comfortable for my size and riding.
If you think the R1 is sexy, get it. If the ZX-10 is ugly, avoid it. There are 4 jap bikes out there for a reason... personal preference...
