If i were in the market for a new bike, I'd be checking out the ZX10. Kawasaki stepped it up this year.

No I didn't know you bike was down - how severe is severely wrecked? I'm confused.....
the 09 R1's went backward in HP. The engine is a new design.....eventhough it's cool as hell and sounds great, I would be weary about getting it til Yamaha has a year or so under it's belt to see what issues they have with it.
I agree with BlueR6....check out the Kawi's.....lots of good feedback from many of the bike mags.

People always say to man up and grow some balls, balls are vulnerable.....man up and grow a vagina, those things can take a pounding!!
The US and EUR R1's are two different machines. The US got a watered down version that limited throttle bodies to 80% past 11K rpm in 4th, 5th, and 6th gears. Plus the US bikes have smaller inlet mufflers to meet EPA noise regulations.
The 09 R1 is probably built better then any other japanese bike but it doesn't perform well on the rollers so magazines have not loved it. On tracks around the world the R1 is winning races and it is doing so with 20+ less HP then the other bikes on the grid. With the R1 it's all about having the most usable HP not having a high horse powered bike is difficult to ride fast.

The R1's winning the British Superbike Championship are running with ~170whp while the other bikes are near 200whp. The crossplane crank engine is proving a new challenge for tuners to make big power out of. It still isn't stopping them from winning races, in AMA, BSBK, and WSBK.
If you want to buy a bike based on dyno numbers then buy a GSXR or ZX, both are blinding fast.
