do a track day in the beginner group. Far more is learned then going to the riders courses provided locally.
Wear lots of gear all the time.
ride at no more then 90% of your ability on the streets.
Watch EVERYONE else because the only ones looking for you are the ones trying to hit you.
Assume and be prepared for a false neutral when letting the clutch out at a stop light.
Keep it in gear, have an escape route and keep an eye on the approaching vehicles behind you when sitting at a stop light......I put it in neutral after the car behind comes to a complete stop.

Didn't see the blind spot tip...
Don't stay in a cagers' blind spot. Either pass or stay behind them. And seriously, I don't want to offend anyone, but watch out for vans, volvos, and Ohio plates. Vans can't see well behind them and probably are wrestling with 3 kids. Volvos are owned by people who know they can't drive worth a sh!t, that's why they buy it, "for safety". People from Ohio, well I don't know, they are just bad drivers.
Three things to watch for...Volvos, Vans, and anyone with an Ohio license plate. Oh yeah and DEER.

Here is a big +1 for reasons to wear your gear. A friend washed out in front of me and I did the "off road sportbike cartwheel".... The bike was totaled but I walked away. I was wearing full leathers, Boots, full gloves, and of course the helmet. DONT get cheap on gear. It will save your life.
Here it is after we pulled it out of the fence.

My leathers saved my hide back in June at Deals Gap when I washed out and slid on my ass down the dragon.![]()

When you are cornering as you look ahead of you, you will see the sides of the road converge. It is a optical illusion of depth. If that convergence goes away from you you are in an increasing radius turn. It it is getting closer you are in a decreasing radius turn. It it stays the same then you are in a constant radius turn. Adjust speed accordingly.
Using this forces you to look well ahead of yourself (which in turn slows things down). Try this...it really works!
